Training

Teachers create vital learning environments where students can thrive. For students who have experienced trauma, safety is the foundation for building trust and academic success.

Trainings consist of 3, 3-hour training sessions:

  • Location: On-site or virtual trainings
  • Eligibility: Prince George’s County High School Staff Members
  • Capacity: 40 participants per training per school
  • CEUs: CEUs will be awarded for Social Workers. More information to come for CEUs for teachers and other school professionals.
  • Optional: Coaching sessions are available to support the implementation of new information.

To express your interest in the training program or learn more, contact Melanie Geddings-Hayes.

Adoption/permanency-competent therapy differs from general therapy by centering the nuanced, unique challenges and needs of children and families impacted by the adoption and/or foster care process, focusing on attachment and trauma in a strengths-based, family-centered manner.

Paths for Families is providing trauma-informed, adoption/permanency-competent counseling for students in the following Prince George’s County High Schools:

  • Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr. High School
  • Bowie High School
  • Crossland High School
  • Suitland High School
  • Bladensburg High School
  • Flowers High School

Paths for Families uses evidence-based counseling approaches including TF-CBT, SBIRT, & TBRI.

  • Location: On-site
  • Eligibility: Students attending any of the schools above who are currently experiencing foster care, living with a relative/guardian, or who are adopted.
