Region’s Largest Adoption and Family Well-Being Organization Rebrands as Paths for Families After 33 Years

Baltimore (Oct. 2, 2023) and Washington, D.C. – Today, the largest holistic adoption placement and family well-being organization in the DMV region unveils a new, singular brand identity: Paths for Families. Formerly known as one organization made up of two brands, Adoptions Together and FamilyWorks Together, the entire organization will now be known as and referred to as Paths for Families. Adoptions Together will remain a program within Paths for Families.

For 33 years, Paths for Families has woven human-centered care, evidence-based practices, and trauma-informed expertise into its work serving more than 15,000 children and families across the region. As the needs of the community evolved, so did the organization’s support, and it was time for the brand to reflect all that the organization does to support the life-long work of building and sustaining families and advocating for best practices in the community.

“We’ve been here and continue to be here for expectant parents exploring adoption, birth parents, adoptive families, children in need of adoption, people who were adopted, and professionals in the community through placement services, counseling, and training,” said Janice Goldwater, founder and CEO of Paths for Families.

“Every path in this space is so unique, and we are here for each and every one. We are deeply proud of our impact, and see this rebrand as a way to continue and grow our work,” she said.

Paths for Families embarked on a multi-year process of research, reflection, and community feedback to actualize this next phase. Collaborating with DC-based strategic partner, Teal Media, they audited brand messaging and visuals, held conversations with leaders and stakeholders, conducted internal and external surveys, and evaluated market and industry trends to develop something that spoke directly to those they serve and all they stand for.

“It’s been a profound reflection of our journey and an enthusiastic embrace of what lies ahead,” said Lisa Dominguez, Paths for Families’ Chief Program Officer. “It was the best next step in ensuring our organization’s continued impact and growth to support of hundreds of children and families each year.”

When recalling starting the agency, Goldwater said: “We had our license for a week before being contacted by a mother in distress who wanted her daughter to be adopted and could not find an agency to help. I remember driving down Route 50 with her in the backseat, and I couldn’t have imagined then the impact we’ve had for families in the region today. The structure of families and the field of adoption including family planning has changed so much since then and I truly feel this new brand identity reflects our commitment to children and families no matter what the path behind or ahead looks like.”

About Paths for Families

Paths for Families is an adoption and family well-being organization that partners with individuals and communities dedicated to the lifelong work of building and sustaining families. For more than 30 years, we’ve been here for expectant parents exploring adoption, birth parents, prospective and current adoptive families, children in need of adoption, people who were adopted, and professionals in the community. With the understanding that every path is unique, we enhance and support the wellbeing of children and families through placement services, counseling, and training. With a focus on nurturing positive and restorative experiences, we bring dedicated, technical expertise and trauma-informed, evidence-based practices to the communities we serve. On a systemic level, we share our training with professionals in child welfare and the broader community to build more trauma-responsive systems of care. We treat everyone with the understanding, kindness, and respect we believe all humans deserve. This is the compass that guides us in our work, putting human dignity and ethical practices at the forefront of everything we do for children, families, and their communities so they can genuinely feel they are not alone on this journey.
