Bridging Belonging: Culturally Responsive Support for Interracial Families in Foster Care and Adoption

This free, two-hour virtual training is focused on supporting interracial foster and adoptive families in recognition of National Adoption Awareness Month. Rooted in cultural humility and anti-oppressive social work practices, this training offers participants the opportunity to explore how caregivers can affirm a child’s racial, ethnic, and cultural identity. Attendees will gain practical strategies for creating safe, inclusive, and nurturing environments where children can thrive.

The training will address:

  • The importance of names, language, and cultural traditions in identity development
  • Recognizing and responding to microaggressions vs. curiosity in family and professional settings
  • Understanding the impact of cultural dismissal, internalized oppression, and self-hate
  • Practical strategies for fostering culturally responsive routines and open conversations about race, identity, and belonging

All attendees will receive 2 free Category I CEUs in Anti-Oppressive Social Work Practice!
