Looking for Adoptions Together or FamilyWorks Together? New name, same us. Here’s why!
Families benefit from building community and finding support in group settings. Our adoption support groups, foster care support groups, and online adoption and foster care support groups are excellent ways for your family to get the adoption-competent support you need in a community setting. We offer online support groups for children, adolescents, and families on a variety of issues. These groups aim to allow the participant to receive support from their peers and facilitators with lived experience as well as education from licensed, trained therapists to support their growth and healing. The groups are offered weekly and monthly.
Parent Support Group is a general support group for adoptive, kinship, guardians, and pre-adoptive parents. This group meets via zoom on designated Thursdays of each month for 1.5 hours.
Parent Book Club meetings are a safe space for parents to connect and discuss adoption-related books with the guidance and support of Parent Mentors and Parent Mentor Supervisor/Adoption Competent Clinician, Jennifer McLeod. Meetings are held virtually with 3 different options including morning, evening, and weekend sessions. Meetings are free to participate in for families that qualify for the MD Program.
The Interracial Parent Support Group (INTAG) is a safe space for parents to connect and engage with other interracial adoptive families to ask questions, share advice, and discuss their family’s unique experiences. This group meets monthly and includes guest speakers, productive dialogue, and practical tools for families.
The Interracial Children’s Support Group (INTAG) is a safe space of emotional support for children and youth adopted into interracial families. There are two groups divided by age. The groups engage in open discussion and guided activities (readings, lessons, games, etc.) focused on civic and cultural topics that impact their lives. INTAG increases participants’ consciousness of their resilience, self-worth, and value they add to their family, community, and the world.
Adoption is a lifelong journey and support from our team at Paths for Families doesn’t end after finalization. Building a strong support network of people and resources enables you and your family to have the necessary support when making a huge life transition. In partnership with the Social Services Administration, we offer free post-adoption counseling for qualified families in Maryland.
