Waiting Family for Foster Care Adoption, Emily & Brad

Hello we are Brad and Emily from Flint Hill, Virginia. We have been married for 16 years. We are looking to open our hearts and our home to a child, to provide a safe, structured, and fun loving environment for a child to grow, flourish, and excel into the person they are meant to be. We are ready to start making memories as a family! We are excited to get to know our child, to learn what is important to them, and incorporate their traditions into our family, as well as starting new traditions of our own.

Our desire to adopt has come after many years of infertility. Our desire to parent a child from foster care comes with lots of consideration. We fully understand the commitment and time that will be necessary to nurture a child that may have medical or developmental needs. As we navigate these needs with any future children we bring into our home, we feel that we have a great support system. We have close friends that we can lean on, one has a child with ADHD and sensory issues and another friend has a child diagnosed with autism. Both of these friends have been very open and honest with us about these diagnoses and what they entail.

Brad is a construction manager for commercial construction. He loves watching college football and has coached baseball and basketball in the past, which he would love to do again, if the child showed interest. He also enjoys hunting, spending time in the woods, and yard work. Brad has a fun personality, good sense of humor, and he doesn’t let much get to him. Brad will be a great dad, looking for opportunities to get involved with activities that interest the child.

Emily is a system integrator for a software development team. She enjoys reading and looks forward to reading bedtime stories to her children one day. She also enjoys cooking and interior design/décor, which makes for lots of projects for Brad! Emily is organized and likes to have structure in her life, but knows how to let loose and have fun too, like having impromptu dance parties in the living room. Emily will be the type of mom that will go on field trips, and looks forward to helping her future children with school work, and learning life skills.

As a family, Brad and Emily enjoy spending time in Nags Head, North Carolina, at the beach, where they vacation often with their dogs, Gunner, an 8 year old Australian Shepherd, and Chief, a 3 year old Chesapeake Bay Retriever. Both dogs love the water and spend countless hours playing fetch on the sound.

Brad and Emily live in a small community, Rappahannock County, located in the northern Piedmont region of Virginia. Our home is located on 10 acres with a small stream that cuts through the middle of the property. It is country living at its best with plenty of room for outdoor activities. Emily is already sketching out plans for the playhouse, for Brad to build in the backyard! We are looking forward to opening our pool for the first time in the spring of 2023, and know that many memories will be made with family and friends for summers to come. Our county has a community park which includes a playground, swings, tennis courts, skate park, and pavilion. Also within the county is one of many entrances to Skyline Drive (Shenandoah National Park), which is a great place to go hiking or have a picnic.

We attend a small Baptist Church, located in Sperryville, Virginia, where Brad’s cousin is the pastor. Sunday’s are probably our favorite day of the week. After church sometimes we will grab a pizza at a local spot before heading home to relax, and watch a movie, or just hang out on the porch with the dogs.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know us!
